Steel Sabatons: Stainless Steel Foot Armor for Buhurt and SCA Heavy Combat
Feet are the most overlooked target on the field until someone lands a clean shot on your toes with a polearm. Then they are the only thing you can think about. These stainless steel sabatons cover the full top of your foot in articulated plate, from the ankle bend down to the toe, so you can focus on fighting instead of limping.
Each sabaton is built from 4-5 overlapping stainless steel lames that flex as your foot moves. Walk, pivot, charge, and plant your feet naturally. The articulated design follows the curve of your stride instead of fighting against it.
Available with or without our purpose-built dark leather combat boots. Buy the full package ready to fight, or order the sabatons alone to mount on your own footwear.

Why Stainless Steel?
These sabatons are forged from stainless steel, not mild steel. Stainless does not rust. Your feet spend every fight inches from mud, grass, puddles, and sweat. Mild steel sabatons need oiling after every event or they pit and corrode. Stainless steel shrugs off moisture and holds its satin-polished finish with minimal maintenance. Wipe them down, put them away, and they look the same when you pull them out next month.
Why Choose These Sabatons?
Articulated lames move with your foot. Rigid one-piece sabatons restrict your stride and make footwork clumsy. Each sabaton on this pair uses 4-5 overlapping lames riveted together, creating a shell that flexes as you walk, pivot, and drive forward. You get full coverage on top of the foot without sacrificing the mobility your fighting stance demands.
The rounded toe plate stops the hits that matter. A downward sword strike or a polearm sweep across the ground line targets your toes first. The rounded toe cap on each sabaton deflects these hits outward and down rather than concentrating force on the tip of your foot. Two ventilation holes in the toe plate prevent heat buildup during long bouts without compromising structural integrity.
The leather boots are built for armor, not fashion. The optional dark leather combat boots are constructed from thick cowhide with reinforced soles and braided cord lacing tipped with brass aglets. The leather shaft rises above the ankle, giving the sabaton lames a solid foundation to rest against. The lace-up closure lets you cinch the boot tight under the steel for a locked-in fit with zero movement between boot and plate.
Heel strap keeps everything locked down. A single brown leather buckle strap wraps around the heel of each boot, anchoring the sabaton assembly so it cannot shift forward during combat. Simple, reliable, and adjustable on the fly between rounds.

Care & Maintenance
Stainless steel requires far less upkeep than mild steel. Wipe down with a damp cloth after each event to remove dirt and debris. Dry thoroughly. The satin finish can be restored with a Scotch-Brite pad if it picks up surface scratches. For the leather boots, condition with leather balm or neatsfoot oil twice a year. Allow boots to air dry completely after use before storing. Store sabatons in a dry location. See our full armor care guide for detailed instructions.
